INDOOR SWIMMING POOL: YEA OR NAY

An indoor swimming pool is a popular option for many expensive or high-end luxury homes. Even if you don't live in a mansion or very expensive home, you may be considering adding an indoor swimming pool. However, before you do - consider the following:

Benefits of Indoor Swimming Pools

The most obvious benefit of an indoor swimming pool is its ease of access and proximity to your living area. Also, having an indoor swimming pool will allow you to enjoy a leisurely swim even on days that are cloudy or rainy. Many indoor swimming pools are equipped with heating systems that allow you to control the temperature of the water, and this can make for a more enjoyable swimming experience.

Also, there is no need for winterizing an indoor pool because the pool is not exposed to cold winter weather. Finally, maintenance on indoor pools is a lot less as the pool is not exposed to the outside dust and debris that is normally blown into an outdoor pool by the wind – that means less frequent pool cleaning.

Ill-effects of Indoor Swimming Pools

Although indoor swimming pools are certainly convenient, indoor swimming pools are also very expensive. Not only will you need to pay for the cost of the swimming pool itself, you will need to pay for an addition to your house that will involve considerable expense in building the structure surrounding the swimming pool.

In addition to the substantial upfront costs, an indoor swimming pool will usually cause your electricity bills to be much higher than normal. Water heating systems, water pumps, additional lighting, and other pool devices will increase your heating your electricity bills considerably.

When you talk about swimming pools, outdoor pools readily come to the mind of the average Nigerian. In the world at large, architecture is being taken to wild heights. Building and design codes and regulations are coming in the ‘obscene creative splendor'. Building department of great cities are having to expand their ‘coast' and 'think outside the box' to accommodate and approve new age architecture. Nigeria should not be left out. Indoor pools are a new wave therapeutic relaxation, all year round recreation, exercise, and mere fun. Swimming is widely regarded as the best overall exercise, it uses more muscles than any exercise. Floating in water simply reduces stress and calms the mind.

Many builders and home owners are reluctant to include a swimming pool in their indoor plan out of fear and factors that come with it, such as moisture, humidity, deterioration of building materials, especially wood, gypsum, metal, and unhealthy and unsightly mold and, mildew, which could all result from an indoor pool which is not well planned, constructed, and managed. Therefore, highly specialized materials and construction methods must be employed.

Imagine a grand piano sitting at the bay of your indoor exotic splendor, with sound oozing from your Bose tweeters, and your guests having a great time at your expense. What a stately statement!

Dinning and sitting areas could actually overlook your ‘indoor splendor' is definitely going to be the best part of your home.
